1. Stratigraphic information and age models
-
This section contains the biostratigraphic data and working illustrations
in order to derive numerical ages for the studied samples. The data were
used as input for an updated version of Dave Lazarus' Age Depth Plot Program
(ADP), which was applied to determine the numerical ages of samples. An
earlier version of ADP is available from the ftp directory of the NGDC
under the URL http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/mgg/geology/lazarus.html
-
The file formats, abbreviations and code names used follow those applied
in Lazarus et al. (1995).

-
1.1. Biostratigraphic lists (bstrat files)
-
Lists for the investigated cores indicating the datums of the biostratigraphic
events and paleomagnetic reversals to derive a numerical age model. These
bstrat files are in Excel (text format). All ages follow the integrated
time-scale of Berggren et al.
(1995). Most of the biostratigraphic events were read from the Initial
and Scientific Reports of the DSDP and ODP, after a magnetic reconvertion
to the Berggren et al. (1995) time-scale using the Cande
and Kent (1995) geomagnetic polarity scheme. The sample intervals (top,
bottom) embracing individual events are indicated in mbsf (single numbers)
or according to the sample name convention of the DSDP and ODP.

1.2. Line-of-correlation files (loc files)
-
The "line-of-correlation" files (MsWord, text format) contain the control
points for the individual line segments of the age-depth plots (=age models),
that were derived for each core from the bio- and magnetostratigraphic
files illustrated in Figure 2 of the paper. The age column is indicated
in Ma, the depth column is indicated in mbsf.

1.3. Graphs of the Age-Depth Models
-
Illustrations of the Age-depth Plots (Gif format) showing the positions
of the stratigraphic events and the derived age model curve (line-of-correlation,
see above).
-
2. Raw Data
The original measurements of coccolith diameters (in micrometers) and
number of elements per site and for each sample are available, either as
raw
data (ascii text format) or illustrated as Scatter
plots or as Contour
plots, respectively.
-
3. Sample ages and Statistics
-
Table summarizing the age and statistics of measurements from all samples
used in this study (one Ms Word text file).
